Information

DescriptionThis new edition is greatly expanded and includes a full list of the official symbols found on New Zealand charts. In this respect it may be thought of as the replacement for the LINZ publication NZ201, List of chart Symols and Abbreviations, no longer in print. The book is a Royal New Zealand Coastguard course text and a useful cockpit reference. The RNZCG have produced two books plus a CD RoM and two workbooks, which students for the relevant certificates are strongly encouraged to obtain. The Rules of the Road at Sea contains the text of the International Rules for Preventing Collision and a full explanation of their meaning and application. It also includes other nautical material such as a full description of the buoys and beacons used in New Zealand.Author BiographyMike Scanlan is a Master Mariner who learned the arts of navigation and seamanship from years of navigating many of the world's great passenger ships around the world. For more than thirty years as a lecturer at the New Zealand Maritime School, he has taught and examined professional masters and mates, becoming particularly involved in the teaching, examining and administration of Boatmaster and Yatchmaster classes, an interest he has maintained since teaching the first Safe Boating and Boatmaster classes to be introduced into New Zealand.
